Thank you,
I have loved my time as a student journalist at Blackfoot High School and I am very blessed to have been a part of such a wonderful journalism program. I feel fortunate to have spent the time that I have under such an amazing adviser and with a great staff. I am fortunate to have participated in the creation of many well thought out and imaginitive publications. Because I have had experience with newspaper, yearbook, and the literary magazine I have been able to learn different types of jounalism and writing that will help me in my future endeavors. This June I will be leaving my desk at Blackfoot High and attending Utah State University in the fall where I will gain further education until moving on to California's College of the Arts for degrees in Film and Journalism. I know that my work at Blackfoot High School has prepared me for a competitive work environment and i can't wait to see where life takes me!
The JEA National JOY Award is but one competition and one achievement, but the work that I have displayed is the efforts of many sleepless nights, long days and years of dedication. It wouldn't have been possible without the help of some of my biggest influences in life and the staff that put up with me for four years. (Pictured below.) My former editors mentored me and my adviser, Teresa Gallegos, was irreplaceable in helping me get to level i am at today in my writing.
This website is the last thing I will leave behind for future editors to inspire. THis is the last piece of my portfolio and the process has been complex, but beautiful. This is my third website that I have designed and it's been tremendous fun. I am proficient with the basics of web design and it is a valuable tool for the ever growing tech age we live in. Whether I receive a national award or not, I have been blessed to be a part of the JEA Journalist of the Year competition.
Thank you for viewing my portfolio. This crazy ride I have been on is just the beginning of life for me and already I know I have been changed for the better, for good. World, here I come!
Sincerely,
Erick L. Wood
